Course title: Social media basics: Storyboarding and filming  

Year Group: Open to First Year students

Content: Do you want to learn the basics around video making for social media using a smart phone or tablet?  

Come along and be inspired to create your own film with Ellie!  

Day 1 am: intro to storytelling and narratives  

Day 1 pm: storyboarding and scripting (overcoming barriers)  

Day 2 am: filming and recording audio  

Day 2 pm: editing and watching  

Trainer/s: Ellie Worldwide is an award-winning freelance filmmaker specialising in extreme environment filming and science documentary with social impact.   


Course Title: Effective Outreach with Children

Date: 20-21 May 2026

Year Group: All welcome

Delivery: In-Person, Bristol

Content:  Do you want to inspire children with your research?  

The Outreach With Children Training Course enables you to gain the skills and confidence to make your complex research inspiring and accessible for children of all ages.

Course Title: Science Communication at the Natural History Museum

Date: 12-13 May 2026, London

Year Group: All welcome

Delivery: In-Person, Natural History Museum

Content:

  • An afternoon science communication masterclass Museum Creative Producer Alastair Hendry

  • Children’s author and former scientist Dr Nick Crumpton in conversation with Museum Principle Curator and author Dr Erica McAlister on writing, working with television, radio and podcasts

  • A guide to public engagement in galleries, with Louis Platman, Senior Interpretation Developer for the brand-new dinosaur gallery currently being developed for the Museum’s 150 year anniversary

  • Free tickets to some of our current exhibitions like Wildlife Photographer of the Year

  • Will be an excellent opportunity to network with your peers from other DLAs
